Air quality monitoring stations in the Newcastle LGA will be installed by the EPA in the near future. Is it important these stations include the ANSTO particle speciation testing to understand as well as the level of particles the type of particles hence source of these particles and health effects and means to control any particle pollution at their source?

An air monitoring station at Stockton measures PM10, PM2.5, NH3, NO2, NOx and has been operational for 8 months. There have been 20 failures of the PM10 50 ug/m3 criteria and 1 failure of PM2.5 25 ug/m3 advisory. Is this a cause for concern. 

Is there any health effects from PM10 particles identified as 

1. Salt particles

2. Coal particles

3. Soil particles (assume depends on the soil and  contamination of the soil if from industrial area)

4. Ammonium nitrate (as PM10 or PM2.5)

e.g. diesel used in extracting and transporting coal
